Our Story

Under the heartfelt leadership of Bishop Vivian Murphy-Hutcheson, A Place Called Hope was founded by Executive Pamela Hutcheson, Deacon Rochelle Thompson, Minister Kuwana Baker, and Deacon Lesia Richardson, who were all inspired to support her vision. From the very beginning, our church has been rooted in faith, love, and a deep commitment to serving others. Our journey began with a powerful "Burning Bowl" service on December 31, 2009. As we grew, God opened doors—after holding two services in a home garage, we were blessed with a dedicated worship space. On February 6, 2010, we held our first service in the new location, launching a Global Outreach for the Haitian community with an incredible turnout. Through the generosity of our congregation, we gathered a freewill offering and non-perishable food donations to support those in need. Our mission of compassion continued as we extended aid to flood victims in Tennessee, offering both financial and spiritual support. At A Place Called Hope, we believe in making a real difference. That’s why we are proud partners of Passage Home, a nationally recognized faith-based nonprofit dedicated to strengthening families in Raleigh, North Carolina. We are also a member of the Circle of Faith with Interact, a United Way agency empowering survivors of domestic violence, and we work closely with Haven House, which provides crisis intervention for at-risk youth and the homeless. Through Bishop Murphy-Hutcheson's leadership, our food pantry has become a vital resource, working hand in hand with the Department of Human Services and other Triangle-area agencies to provide food assistance. Our commitment to outreach grew even stronger with the launch of Brown Bag Ministry in 2015 and Bountiful Hope Ministry in 2017—initiatives that help us serve our community and continue building God’s Kingdom, one brick at a time. At A Place Called Hope, we welcome you with open arms and open hearts. Join us as we continue to spread hope, love, and faith to all who seek it.
